2020 Sonora Collection with Paintbox Yarns

The wind rustling through tall wheat grass and wildflowers, the sound of the bass from a concert in the distance, it’s sunset but it’s still so hot… where’s my beer? The Sonora Collection - a modern, summertime, crochet collection with Paintbox Yarns - was inspired by desert architecture, wildflowers, and classic travel posters.

The collection uses Cotton DK, and Metallic DK yarn to make up 5 pieces: A dress, a halter, two tops, and a clutch. Grab the FREE patterns stat, and read more about the inspiration and design process below!

The 5 festival-ish inspired patterns are meant to be experimented with! All can be made with scraps + different color palettes, just like the different ridges of wildflowers around the world. I can’t wait to see yours! Each piece drew inspiration from nostalgic, sun-kissed moments. You can check out my SS 20 mood board for the full aesthetic entanglement.

Bees do have a smell, you know, and if they don’t they should, for their feet are dusted with spices from a million flowers.
— Ray Bradbury - Dandelion Wine

What a year so far, eh? Now that many of us are finally being allowed out of our houses, and into the outdoors for social distancing - crochet can suit both sides of the coin. A fun activity for indoors, and great outfits to wear in the wild! It’s always a good time for a handmade #ootd.

The SS 2020 Sonora Collection was made in collaboration with Paintbox yarn and LoveCrochet. They collaborated with me on my 2018 Seaside Collection and some of my older collections as well! Without their continued support, love of color, and audience insight, I would not be where I am today!

Paintbox cotton is the perfect summer yarn. Light and stretchy, their color palette selection is unrivaled with 50 colors. They’re also fairly priced, and bundle in smaller skeins – this cuts back on waste, which is a big concern in the fashion industry.

For each piece of the collection, I specify how many skeins of yarn you’ll need per size, in each color - but again, this is merely a suggestion. The patterns give a step by step guide on how to make each garment or accessory, with lots of behind-the-scenes photos on my instagram if you’re more of a visual learner! Be sure to catch my live on July 24th for join-as-you-go granny squares on LoveCrafts YouTube channel. Additionally I’ll be hosting a CAL for my Datura Bloom Top during August! So if you’re thinking about it - join us!

Now, I’d like you to meet the collection:

The 4am Bralette

A top that goes from day-to-night-back-to-day-again. Breathable, with as much coverage as you want. This flexible fringey top is begging to be danced in!

The 4am halter features classic triangle cups with some lace work edging. The base features modern granny squares, and fun fringe at the bottom. It can be as cropped (or not) as you want it. The design includes an open upper back with a tie closure - so if in between sizes, round down! Adjustable coverage and a design that’s as flexible as you are.

This oversized lacy number was inspired by the blooming Datura flower. Pretty, delicate, and perfect alone or layered! Dress it up or down, this piece can go easily from casual to going-out.

Featuring 3 different classic crochet motifs, the top is constructed flat in modules, and then in the round for the base and sleeves. The granny square motif can be traded out for any you like that keeps to gauge - and feel free to use colors!

I’m also hosting a CAL of the Datura Bloom top through @paintboxyarns insta starting August 3rd - so stay tuned!

This breezy dress was inspired by the brick and tile work in the many riads (a sort of hotel/house) in Morocco! The geometric granny stitches invoke the designs on the floors and courtyards of these beautiful buildings.

The dress features bell sleeves, straight sides, and a drawstring waist. The tassels add a burst of color, but you can feel free to add different shades to the dress itself! Make it as short or as long as you’d like from mini skirt to floor length!

This classic-with-a-twist, granny square top is the most functional top. Not only is a great scrapbuster (go on! use all those scraps!) but it’s also REVERSIBLE!

Featuring and off-the-shoulder silhouette, perfect for catching a little sun. The lace-up can be worn in the front or the back, so if you’re going for fitted, don’t be afraid to size down. The little half sleeves complete this perfect summertime top.

This beautiful little clutch bag is impressive inside and out. Meant to use up more of your scraps from the collection it’s the perfect afterthought bag - both for the night - and to finish off your Sonora makes.

This design is meant to look like the very end of sunset when the stars come out above the horizon. It makes full use of the paintbox metallics collection for that shiny finish. You don’t need any thread for this as long as your button holes are wide enough - you can use yarn!

Each design is unique and goes up to 2/3X depending on the garment. If you have issues with any of the patterns, or questions on the grading, please reach out to LoveCrochet directly as they are exclusive to the site. I hope you love them, and I hope you’ll join me for the upcoming #DaturaBloomMAL!
